Dental Amalgam (silver filling)

An alloy made by mixing mercury (Hg) with a silver-tin (Ag-Sn) dental amalgam alloy. It is the most commonly used dental restorative material. Amalgam has been the restorative method of choice for many years due to its low cost, ease of application, strength, durability, and bacteriostatic effects. Recent decline in use of dental amalgam as a restorative material is mainly due to detrimental health effects, aesthetics, and environmental pollution.
